Iron pot is a relatively traditional pot. Iron pot generally does not contain toxic substances and is not easy to oxidize. Using iron pot for cooking can replenish iron for our body. But there are also some troubles in the use of iron pots. For example, iron pots can easily rust if you are not careful.
Methods to prevent or reduce rust
Method 1: Create a protective film before using the new pot
Many people know that before using a new pot, you need to add a little more oil to heat it, and shake the pot to ensure that the surface of the pot is covered with oil. Let it sit for half a day to a day before starting to use it. The purpose of this is to form a protective film on the surface of the pot to isolate the iron from the air and prevent the formation of rust. The protective film only blocks the air to a certain extent. However, due to the frequent use of the pot, the protective film will often be damaged. So this is just the first step in preventing your pot from rusting.
Method 2: Clean the pot promptly after use
The pot should be cleaned promptly after use and any food residue should be scrubbed away with a rag. Food residues that are not cleaned can easily react with iron pots and form rust. Many people like to use steel wool to wash pots. Steel wool is very sharp. Although it can clean the food residue very thoroughly, it also destroys the protective film of the pot. The pot that is cleaned in this way is easy to rust.
Method 3: Hang or turn the iron pot upside down to keep the kitchen ventilated.
After the pot is washed and dried, it should be hung or placed upside down on the stove so that even if there is moisture, it will not stay on the surface of the pot. If it is placed along the stove, if there is moisture that wets the pot, or if the pot gets wet when using water in the kitchen, the moisture will remain at the bottom of the pot, and rust will appear in a few hours.
Keep the kitchen ventilated, open the kitchen window, or ensure there are vents. In this way, air convection is maintained, and water vapor will not remain in the pot, which is not conducive to the formation of pot embroidery.
